Mike Heinsdorf: Mike's Thoughts...

Just looked at the forecast for the next couple days and I'm happy to say it looks like our British friends are going feel right at home. Overcast weather with some thunderstorms thrown in for good measure seem to rule the weather report for next week. I can't wait to see over a hundred sailors, race committee and a couple kegs crowd into the West River clubhouse if we experience a weather delay. Getting a beer is going to be a life changing experience at that point, similar to communion as everyone takes a sip from your beer as it's passed back to you and Mr. Harris reposes as the rector at the keg, dispensing beer to those serving as his altar staff...meanwhile you're gagging off the smell of rank wetsuit that's been locked up in a shipping container for two months. Honestly, life couldn't be better. Would you rather be sitting in front of a PC or performing a dreaded task for THE MAN? Or having a ten year old throw paint at you in class? Or berating your employees for spending time on the internet writing emails to Mr. Blog@albacore.org when they should be doing billable work?

On the bright side, it's the Chesapeake, it's fall, it's going to blow. Weather has been gorgeous in the DC Metro area as of late. Fall days with perfect, mild temperatures and plenty of breeze. Just sunny enough that you need some clothing, but aren't sweating to death. Breeze has been consistent when it's around – like any other place in the world, some days are good, some not so good and occasionally you get some ripping breeze. Good chance we will get some of the ripping variety later on this week as this cold front moves through.

West River (Galesville actually) is a bit a sleepy town, normally. I have a feeling this week it's going to change. As I'm sure our friends already in the area have found out, there are a couple places to eat and drink nearby, plus Washington, DC and Annapolis are nearby if you want to have a night out on the town. Not to mention, the soon to be world famous Annapolis Boat Show is going on this week. Big boats, little boats, lots of gear and even more beer. All it needs to be great is a couple Albacores on trailers ready to drive away. Good news is that progress has come a long way on that front and this regatta should mark the debut of a new boatbuilder. More on that later this week…

Be sure to stay tuned this week. Blog postings, video, interviews with some of our top sailors, are all going to be posted on this website (assuming: a. internet always works, b. no laptop/camera/accessory failure, c. we aren't bushed after sailing and d. we remember to do it) all during the next week. Big thanks to [un-named person] and Mr. Peter Duncan (as well others I don't know about) for making this happen.

See you on the water,

Mike
