ALBACORE #4862
After not being a particularly motivated seller (I have fond memories of racing the boat), and have always wanted to race it again, but have too much else going on), I have decided that Albacore 4862 is seriously for sale.

The boat is sitting in Marty Hublitz' backyard and was last raced by him.

This is a highly modifed 1973 Skene Albacore. The boat had the Skene "racing deck" retro fitted to it, rather than the standard deck on other Skene's of its era. As part of a major rebuild (see: http://www.albacore.org/USA/members/repair/4862_rebuild.asp) additonal bulkeads and frames were fitted to greatly stiffen the bow, this includes diagonal bulkheads that handle shroud loads. This boat can carry rig tension. The boat is cored from the back of the diagonal bulkheads aft to a large box thwart. As a result of the diagonal bulkheads, frames and partial core, the boat is much stiffer than boats of its era. Mast, boom are not original, but newer Proctor Centerboard is a custom Waterat (worth ~ $1000 new) Rudder is a Waterat high aspect ratio (worth ~ $600 new) includes a Rapide dolly which is galvanized steel. Decent sails, and a new jib. No trailer (but a downgrade of foils to get a trailer is possible)

Marty can probably chime in on how the boat sails, but I beat Barney Harris in a fall frostbite the last time I raced it before the rebuild and the first time I raced it after the rebuild. It has a bit more rocker and is rounder forward than a current Ontario Yachts Albacore, and I think it is faster upwind and down in lighter air due to less wetted area (rounder sections). This boat will not win you the worlds in heavy air and big chop, but it is a far more interesting racing Albacore than you might think a 1973 Skene Albacore would be. I would be surprised if any Albacore in North America has a better CB and rudder. Complete package $2400
