2005 USAA Mid-Atlantics Championship Monmouth Boat Club - May 21, 22 The 2005 Mid-Atlantics Championship will be held at Monmouth Boat Club in Red Bank, NJ, May 21, 22. We have requested that the wind gods not repeat the light and shifty winds of last year that were more typical of July and August on the Navesink than late May. We are planning on 4 races on Saturday and 2 on Sunday, although this is, of course, subject to the whims of the above mentioned deities! Saturday after racing, there will be a great pizza dinner, along with plenty of beer, as is expected of any MBC regatta. In addition to the Championship event, we also plan to reprise the Vintage Boat race held at the 2004 USAA Championship at West River. This is an event targeted for people with "older" boats that might not be in sufficient racing condition for the regular event, or maybe it will be the sailors who are vintage J, or both. This race will begin at 2pm and will run the course MBC uses for its Bridge Race series. Instead of the 'round the buoy races the Championship will be run on, the Vintage Boat race will begin in the Red bank basin, head down river to a turning mark near the bridge (about 2.5 miles), and return, finishing off the club dock. We'll try to place the turning mark so that the total race takes between 1 and 1-1/2 hours, and we'll have a club boat escorting the fleet, just in case. A minimum of two vintage boats will be needed to run this event. Doug Marsh
